Recently I was asked if I considered myself an expert in the field of sunless tanning...YES I replied with heart!! After more than 8yrs of doing this I definatly have the do's n don'ts of it down and always want my clients to be informed.
I also like my clients to help in the outcome of thier tans, its very important to do your part as well for great results and a longer lasting tan. Like using Dove or commercial soaps will make your tan go away quick and can make it streaky as well :( if you don't exfoliate properly then you can have a spotty tan or one that will only last a few days...not good! I also always give my clients pointers on how to use tan extenders there is a trick so you don't get weird fade spots after using it. If your one of my clients then you will know my secret!! On my end I always use the highest quality of solutions available to me and only use them after testing on myself and models if need be. Your skin gets a vitamin infused cocktail while you process, you do NOT get that with cheap solutions...with cheap solutions you get "short tans, dry skin, lizard skin and orangey color. If you have concerns or questions feel free to drop me a note even if you don't live in the area I'm here to help you get the best possible sunless tan...Period!

I'm looking to add onto the event for the next one so if you have a mobile beauty business let me know, great way to meet new potential clients and also network with some of Seattle's coolest chicks! If you are on twitter then follow me for more info and come by and say "hi" my Twitter name is @divinetan :) Check out @nicoleevents, @taylor_tweets for the best of whats going on in Seattle and awesome fashion advice and blog from @alixrose Thanks Ladies looking forward to hanging with you! Cheers! The Grammy's and Oscars have come and gone and of course you see in the tabloids right practicallyl the next day about who wore what, how to create this hairstyle or makeup look. The one thing that they hardly ever talk about is how that glowing actress got her beautiful glow she is sporting??
So many celebs get spray tans done you would not even believe after all they live in Hollywood where they have so much pressure to stay in shape and YOUNG looking! So tanning beds are a big NO NO and yes they do lay in the sun on vacation as you do see pictures of them doing so but you can bet your sweet booty they have sunscreen on! I think I just get a little annoyed that more celebs don't talk about one of their best beauty secrets especially when it may help keep young women out of tanning beds? BUT when a celeb has a bad spray job then everyone seems to talk about it?? Just little messed up in my mind as sunless can be subtle, glowing and so pretty not the Jersey Shore look Ya know what I'm saying right. Cheers!! So I'm really enjoying these sunny days and the sign of the pretty blooming trees and the daffodils and such. The spring is so anticipated here in the NorthWest after our surviving the grey days of winter, the pink and white trees are a very welcome site!!
So as celebrating the arrival of spring comes the time when we pull out those short sleeves and pull off the winter boots and see our winter skin...Yikes! A good way to get rid of the winter pastyness is to scrub, moisturize and of course get a little color the smart sexy way...sunless but go easy less is more with sunless is my motto especially this time of year. If you doing something yourself at home a little piece of advice...start at the bottom and work your way up your body so you don't get creases on your stomach. On a budget make your own sugar scrub, use granulated sugar then add some sesame or almond oil and mix to a manageable consistency. BUT fyi don't use it the day of a sunless session it will leave so much residue on your skin. Heres to the coming spring cheers!! So with the arrival of spring SOON or at least I'm hoping! Sunless tanning will be even more popular as more people are making healthier choices than ever before, I think mostly people are educating themselves about conventional tanning in general and also how much it ages you. The effects of tanning beds or sunbathing may not be seen for years and then all of a sudden in your mid to late thirties if not before you start seeing WEIRD things on your skin...YIKES!
With sunless comes a more gentle and effective way to get your glow and give your skin a nice vitamin infused cocktail at the same time. The amount of color you can get from one sunless session in comparision to tanning beds is actually quite alot. You would have to visit the beds several times to get as much color from one session with me. The bonus of a sunless session that make it worth while besides how healthy and soft your skin will feel are it will help hide blemish's on the skin like bruises, stretch marks, spider veins and broken cappilaries as well. You can also do a little contouring on the body to help dimish the appearance of heavy thighs, arms or a not quite "six pack"...with regular tanning you can't do that. It may be cold still and blah here in Seattle for the most part but many of my clients are going on vacation to fun places where putting on a bikini or a pair of shorts can be to say the least a little intimidating or down right scary for some gals!
Thats where I can swoop in and either take the edge off the pasty winter skin or give you a littlle somethin somethin to wow the locals when you arrive and fit right in. Keep in mind that a sunless tan will NOT protect you from the sun once you arrive so bring the sunscreen and lather up!! Not sure where time goes hard to beleve its the middle of February already...next thing ya know it will be July! I wanted to put out a little good JuJu and say so far its been a good year, doing lots of clients going on vacation,,,(So jealous) but excited for them :)

Tis also the travel season I'm seeing lots of gals going to all sorts of fun places from Vegas to the carribean. A session can take that pasty edge of of your arrival in the sunshine and make that transition to short and bikini a little easier... :o) Give me a shout if your on the move baby! So the cold has really gotten to my skin how about you? noticing dry patches or rough skin or maybe you have eczema and its getting pretty irritated? Now is the time of year to change up your skin care routine to something richer and protects your skin in this cold weather.
Think of your lotions in different catagories spring/summer are lighter and less emolient and fall/winter are more rich and creamy to protect from the elements of wind and cold. When shopping for lotion look for a body butter which usually has a higher concentration of shea butter in it which is wonderful for the skin. Also if you have the $ then buy straight Shea Butter its usually hard to the touch but warms up to the body temp so rub well in your hands first before applying to the body. Wonderful to apply at night just do it about 15 minutes before bed so it doesn't end up all over your sheets! Keep up with the exfoliating as well to keep dry skin at bay and to make your sunless tan take nice and even at your next appointment! Stay warm~Cheers! So this other day I was emailing some other women in my field who live and own business's in Manhattan and LA and who have very well know sunless salons; Sally at Brazilbronze and Katie at Kona Tanning. One thing that they both repeated that is not true here in the Seattle area is that in those metropolitian cities sunless is a way of life not just something you do for a special occassions.
These women have celebrity clientele and many other professional women, Moms and young women for clients as do I..well still working on the Celebrity part!! My goal is to educate more women of all ages on how much damage is done to the skin thru tanning beds and to much exposure to the sun. Believe me I know that when the sun shines here in Seattle that everyone and thier dog gets out in it ASAP and I do enjoy it myself with Sunscreen of course. We are very deficient here in Vitamin D and do need a dose of sunshine and it elevates our mood too, after all the gloomy days here to take a toll! Sunless tanning has been around for a long time and Seattle is a little more reluctant to new things I have found, when I started airbrushing back in 2001 people thought I was from mars!! Now its much more accepted but I still have many first time clients which I love to convert them to the sunless side of life... ;o) Ok I know I'm on roll.. one reason being is that my last facial I asked my esthetician what these funny pore were...well she said thats (some techinal term) and its caused from SUN damage from years back. YIKES I know I was a sunbather in my teens and early 20's not the tanning bed type of gal so I was like how can that be? She said it can take 10 or more years for deep damage to surface and when it does it can be permanent or you may need laser or skin resurfacing to remove it...can you say expensive?!! Ok so thats all I hope you think about your choices next time your heading to the tanning salon even if its a spray booth ( if your pregnant please STAY away from the booth!!) theres no damage done with that choice. Happy Sunless to you! |
